Visiting: Shkodra City, Rozafa Castle, Archaeological Museum, Lead Mosque, Marubi Photography Museum (optional).

Travel back through more than 2,000 years of history on a private day tour to Shkodra with your own guide and driver. Enjoy panoramic views from Rozafa Castle, discover one of Albania’s most distinctive mosques, wander Shkodra’s lively pedestrian streets, and, if you wish, step inside the Marubi National Museum of Photography for a unique look at Albanian life through historic images.

Stop At: Rozafa Castle, Shkoder

Rozafa Castle is one of Albania’s most iconic fortresses, standing on a rocky hill above the confluence of three rivers and the city of Shkodra. Your guide will share the famous legend of Rozafa, the young woman walled into the castle so that its walls would finally stand – a powerful story that every Albanian child grows up hearing. Inside the ruins and the small museum you can see archaeological finds from the Illyrian period onwards, and learn how the fortress later faced Roman, Venetian, and Ottoman armies over many centuries. From the top, you’ll enjoy wide open views over Lake Shkodra, the surrounding mountains, and the red roofs of the city below.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Lead Mosque

Built in 1773 by Mehmet Bushati, ruler of the Pashalik of Shkodra, the Lead Mosque is one of the city’s most important Ottoman-era monuments. Its name comes from the lead that once covered its domes and roof, and its multi-domed design makes it quite different from many other mosques in Albania. Located on historic ground near the old town, it offers a quiet moment to appreciate Shkodra’s religious and architectural heritage while your guide explains its past and recent restoration.

Duration: 15 minutes

Stop At: Shkoder, Shkoder County

Shkodra is one of the oldest cities in Albania, with roots in the ancient Illyrian kingdom and more than two millennia of recorded history. Today it is known as a cultural capital of northern Albania, framed by mountains on one side and Lake Shkodra on the other. Your city visit begins with a relaxed walk along the main pedestrian promenade, lined with cafés, pastel façades, and local shops – a perfect place to feel the city’s easy-going atmosphere. Along the way, you will see central squares, fountains, and monuments that reflect Shkodra’s role as a historic trading and artistic center.

Shkodra is especially famous for its photography tradition, which you can discover at the optional Marubi National Museum of Photography. Here a remarkable archive of images from the 19th and 20th centuries shows everyday life, traditional costumes, portraits, and key historical moments from across Albania, including one of the country’s earliest known photographs.
